Early Termination of Pregnancy

Once contacted for an appointment, we will arrange a nurse-led pre-assessment consultation (which could be over the phone if suitable and appropriate) and ultrasound scan. This is to be sure of how far pregnant you are and check your health so we know what treatment options you have. We have clinics in various sites and times across Hull as not everyone finds getting to clinics easy due to work and family commitments. We will book you into one which best suits your needs and minimises delay.

  • All women are encouraged to have a sexual health screen as sexual and non-sexually transmitted infections can lead to complications if not diagnosed and treated.
  • We will also discuss and provide all methods of contraception for after the procedure. If you are thinking about male or sterilisation, we can arrange an interim method of contraception for meanwhile until a sterilisation appointment can be arranged. Click here for a list of options
  • Our counsellor is available to you at any point in your contact with us. The nurses will arrange this for you. We encourage counselling support if you have a history of mental health problems. Click here for a copy of our counselling leaflet
  •  If you have been a victim of assault we can arrange contact with police services if you wish. Click here for a link to local services for care after sexual assault.
  •  If you have been a victim of domestic violence we can arrange specialist support. Click here for a link to local support services
  • We can make arrangements for interpreters and disability support

If you have a significant medical problem, your nurse will arrange contact with a senior clinician to tailor your care. This may influence the methods of termination available to you.

We can offer medical termination by the medical route (tablets). You can plan to lose the pregnancy in either a clinic or home setting. Here is a link to information on the procedures MTOP and EDM.
