We offer both IUD or IUS coils.
IUD (intrauterine device)
A copper coil is inserted into the womb. This device does not contain hormones.
An IUD is over 99% effective.
It works as soon as it's put in and lasts for 5 or 10 years, depending on the type.
It can also be used for emergency contraception.

IUS (intrauterine system)
A hormonal coil is inserted into the womb. The device contains the hormone progestogen.
An IUS is over 99% effective.
It works as soon as it's put in and lasts for 3 to 8 years, depending on the type.

If you require a coil fitting as part of your HRT please see your GP to be referred into the service.
